scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='The New Deal We Have'/>
There is a tone to Obamacare

Since the deliberations which I covered for Health Care and subsequent passage of the new law, I have noticed that where I reside a change in the way I am processed as a patient is evident. Those working in the medical industry are under a lot of stress mostly because of fear of fee cutting and inability to escape further evaluation and regulating. I am confident that if the law is repealed or managed in a better way my concerns will be erased by a more carefully designed legislation. If Obama is re elected the current law for sure will tag along. Just in the last few days I was appalled at two separate events that I do not think would have occurred pre Obamacare. I was placed on a statin drug a few days ago and advised that interaction with any grapefruit additive or fruit or juice could produce a serious adverse reaction. Admittedly I enjoy different grapefruit products which I had consumed on a daily basis before given the statin. I was, as I mentioned advised against grapefruit products but I wanted to understand if a small quantity was okay. At least four people connected with the medical industry gave conflicting answers. Two said to refain completely. I telephoned the manufacturer and they advised that I could drink up to a quart of grapefruit juice 2 hours before ingesting the medicine. There has to be only one answer. Now I called a huge conglomerate manufacturer of the most popular diet orange soda. I spoke to them about the statin and asked them if there was any grapefruit additives in the ingredient listing natural flavors, after all it is a citric product. Do you know that they refused to tell me? Why? are we coming to a point in this system where facing contraindications and adverse reactions, a soda company will not tell us something that should a mistake arise could be serious. All I asked was whether there was grapefruit anywhere in their product so that I could remain healthy by consuming it. Why so secretive in a credible situation? The next case is impotency drugs. If you are a mature man taking alpha blockers for BPH the only one of that ED class they can give is Viagra only in the lowest 25 dose. The adverserse reaction of hypo-tension, lowereing of blood pressure, is still present and because it is the low dose of Viagra, effectiveness is an issue. It just seems to me like the medical industry has become a ball of confusion and I hope people don't get side effects because complications were posted late in the data base or the shroud of liability caused someone to get very sick.Call the companies, they turn it around and tell you to speak to your doctor. They made the product so why do we have to speak to others? Beside, doctors today are on roller skates.Note that I have no medical license and this material is forwarded based on my own experience as outlined above. Please consult your medical professional.
<img width='1' height='1' I received a multi page letter from my State plan that referenced a myriad of amendments to "my plan". So I wondered if this was still the "my plan"Obama apparently was referring to or a "different plan" that was overhauled but retaining the title of "my plan". I have a journalism degree from NYU and years of working within the law although I am not an attorney. Many of you know that I am a widely displayed Internet Writer since 2005 but even with all of these credentials I myself and I suspect thousands of members had trouble comparing the changes to last year's memo from New York State which was before Obamacare. Finally, as a former healthy lifestyle advocate and Motivational Speaker on Staying in Shape, truthfully, I have never been sick in a notable way and never had an operation in the hospital. This means in a good way, when I got the letter, as a person in top condition I was not as familiar of health plans as the in firmed. So as you would agree, it was time to call the State Insurance and the Union. As far as information and questions, I got rushed off the phone. This was my first experience with Obamacare.

Google

Google

I sold my highest performing stock, an infrastructure firm with a clean record. At the end of the day one individual or one entire party might be left holding the bag. We all know that and additionally we have seen leaders claiming to take a fall to save the economy by standing fast on their principles. I suggest we focus on the meanie here and that is a 15 trillion dollar deficit that has to be substantially reduced. Barack Obama will take the high road and go for appeasing his base and focusing on 2012. If too much is cut program wise he will be angering the groups of well meaning state and local friends that are legitimately coming to him and asking for survival. The problem for Obama is that if he trips the light fantastc and leaves too much static, the debt is not going to be lowered and he will be holding the bag in 2012. The Republicans have another problem and that is a big portion of the electorate does not want to lose their programs and do not want to absorb the pain that is so vitally required to slice up the meanie deficit. This block sees the House as obstructionists instead of determined realists. Sure it is going to hurt all of us but you have to lose a park for our country to survive.
Jay Adler Comment

What has happened to the appliance world?

The Great Recession is not helping the quality we used to get with such things as major appliances. I have had problems with a brand new name brand refrigerator from day one. As of today after enduring the hurry up and wait attitude of the chain store and the manufacturer, my family has had to endure a warmer refrigerator for about a month now. Try to ask for a replacement and see what you get. I really do not think that we should fault our great American corporations for these failures. I firmly believe that the octopus tentacles of the Great Recession as culpable for customer service reps disappearing, cutting me off and a total blase attitude whereas a family is not happy with a product that in the old days was good for ten years. If I could be sold a defective product from the beginning by a brand corporation, you have to ask whether they cut back assembly line and quality control people as well as where the parts come from. There was no way of telling the temperature in my unit which puts the user in an untenable position. So I purchased my own magnetized thermometer offered by the leading company of measurement and with all the service calls and part change, the temperature was the same. This is another reason why our lifestyles are much worse off since they were two years ago.

Don't Drink Off The Bear's Paw

My family's heritage goes always back to Budapest, Hungary and prior to that, Transylvania. My family to the man and woman are sometimes considered to be "classy gypsys". My mother came to America in 1948 on the big boat to Ellis Island. Later when myself and my little sister were born her English was broken but her shrewdness was better than anyone. When I became 15 I walked down to the small electronics store on Broadway and bought an air conditioner and a stereo deck on credit. My mother would never yell at us but she achieved a better way of scolding by being a master at psychological intimidation without raising her voice. She did not know how to say in English "Pay as you go, you idiot". So she did a direct translation from Hungarian which always comes out like an unintelligible idiom. My mother said "You are Drinking off the Bear's Paw".

My mother recently died at 95 years old. I do not think that neither the left or the right desires one party rule television news and commentary. Hannity is the bulwark of of an ideological divide that injects a line in the sand that I believe is necessary in the media for proper evaluation of national issues by both sides. While he reminds me of a shirt sleeves executive, certainly not a George Will educator, he is tough, not afraid of anyone and I think a necessary component of the Fox top spot at this time perhaps in light of his dependable defiance. You seem to be enamored of Beck but I caution you not to be too smitten of what I consider a niche player. Sure he is a phenomenon, very bright, figuratively and in another venue of entertainment, like Soupy Sales who threw pies at Frank Sinatra and also had a huge audience-for awhile.

Somewhat off beat while Hannity is sraight as an arrow and as you said, profitable. My rejoinder had nothing to do with politics or Mr. Beck's presentation which admittedly is nouveau and one due to time constraints in my work, I am not familiar with excepting my XM car radio where I tend to like the Coffee House station instead. Beck is still a human being and Joy Behar who has no medical credentials even to manicure someone and had no right to diagnose this man at all. She put a whammy on the guy and threaded it to his past. Does she have the file? Our speech is far too damming in 2009 and it transcends from Congress to the media to talk show hosts. If Joy has ever worked as a drug counselor or moderated AAA meetings she would have the credentials to bring up Glenn Beck's past troubles and use it against him today. That is what we call stigmatizing him and is a form of discrimination. I agree that Beck is something new and different on TV and because I am usually busy at the time of his show, I do not watch him much. I would advise him to quit bringing up the serious problems of alcohol addiction especially in view of the fact that he keeps mentioning that he is "recovering" which brings on the stigmatizers. As far as Joy Behar is concerned, she is old news. I do not necessarily even know much about Beck's agenda in specifics but he does have 41/2 million viewers on Fox and his own show. Joy is a panelist, I think Beck as a headliner with an entire show of his own is doing a lot better in the entertainment business than she is.
Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

Jay Adler Freelance Writing

Jay Adler Freelance Writing

Blue Dog Opposition To Public Option Fades In Whip Count

When I drive my car it's slow and easy and extremely cautious. On the road I am not going to a fire. Other drivers honk at me when I come to a full stop or look both ways when I make a left. I have not been in any accident in so long that I get heavy insurance for $80/mo. Too bad our politicians do not look before they leap. When our first child was born who I would guess may be older than the fervent and energetic young folks who actually do not care that much about the prospect of a spider and the fly public option because of their natural dismissal of sickness at their vibrant ages. My wife was prepped for delivery at a New York City hospital. My Dad was at a soccer game when I was born in 1951, that was the thing then. I in similar fashion could not stand it in the delivery room (4 Women were talking to the nurses). So I split and painted the town and came back 18 hours later when it was over. Incidentally, the bill then was $10,000 and the anesthesiologist was out of my pocket. The deal could be $20,000 today and if you think government is going to give you that, dream on (I hope Tyler is feeling better.)
Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

Before You Get All Worked Up About Mackenzie's Tell All

Before I go to work on a story I read as many blogs and comments from our wired up community as I possibly can digest. I have found that as a freelance writer, being aware of what blogger young and old reveal emotionally and factually reveal about whatever I am looking to investigate, quantify and conclude is of the utmost assistance in assembling my work. I happened to have been in California in the early sixties and coincidentally attended NYU in Greenwich Village where John Phillips. always an admired and versatile song writer, got his start in the folkie era of Hootenanny, Theo Bickel, Tom Rush and Pete Seeger along with a pretty adept protege by the name of Don McClean. If you wish, download the Mamas and the Papas Creeque Alley for maybe 99cents. Then you will realize why I loved them and their music, they were on the United Airlines headphones when I flew out to LA in 1965. Having said that and you probably saying that I am an old man living in the past, I have never lost my adroit shrewdness. Did the events as described in the book really happen? Who knows. Suddenly the sister who I have not seen since Wendy got a stomach clip is out of the woodwork and ruining a chance to pick up some shekels by clearly admitting that she does not know if this happened. Of Course I remember Michelle, John's first wife as a 20 something hippie queen and is now the group's sole survivor. She seems to have straightened up as she advanced in maturity and I find her to be extremely credible. She has gone on the record as denying any of this happened. John cannot help us. Mackenzie says they went here and there so how come there are no material witnesses? Usually someone doing this would be locked up by virtue of somebody squealing over a decade of offense. I think readers are being snookered but unfortunately only one person can spill this scam if in fact that is what it amounts to.

GOP To Block Obama Health Nominees In Medicare Spat

Here's what bothers me about quick change to our current system, my plan or my doctors. I can only guess, but pushing 60, although by following a healthy lifestyle and never being sick or in the hospital for an operation, I nevertheless have things going on that the invulnerably young bloggers on this site do not have to worry about. If you happen to be a older blogger, say over 40, did you review all of your medicine and need for treatment or surveillance. My wife and I coincidently have thyroid disease which is not really terrible but we have to take a brand name drug called synthroid and have it monitored by a physician familiar with this segment of medicine. You cannot take a generic although these exist and are against advise. So there goes Obama's theory called change the blue pill for the red pill because to save money for him I do not want to remain unconscious all day. I had a 6 recently on a PSA test and the urologist wanted a retest in two months. Expensive. Colonoscopy too. Figure it out, this is the same line as the 4 million jobs and the continuing 20% credit card interest. Some of the things that bother me.
Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

Mackenzie Phillips To Oprah: Decade Of Sex With Dad Ended With Abortion

This is not a story for myself, a family man, still married for 28 years and whose well adjusted and successful full grown offspring are healthy and successful. This is totally on the wrong side of the helpful and under the circumstances dignified accounting and book deal involving the high profile and gorgeous actress Teri Hatcher. I am not Teri's CPA but really and considering that although her violater was not a parent and I do not know how severe her experience was, as Teri revealed, again, in a dignified manner her situation was nonetheless harmful psychologically at least as of when I read about it maybe two years ago. I cannot tell Oprah, whose ratings seem to be slipping who to have as a guest. I cannot do anything about Ms. Phillips profiting from to date and again for me is a shock value event that by design had to have been laced with ongoing insanity. Her tale is so nauseating and unthinkable you must consider the financial motive not tied to Teri Hatcher. I advise to keep the creepy crawlers in your life to yourself, they will only turn people off for good.
Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

New Rule: You Can't Complain About Health Care Reform If You're Not Willing to Reform Your Own Health

I always say that I appreciate comments from citizen journalists who have the kindness to read my comments and allude to them positive or negative. About my reference to Dennis Miller, you are picking up on something I have noticed about commentators on other media. Some of them and shockingly so and apparent to perceptive viewers have flipped their original ideology 360 degrees from what they espoused 30 years ago when they appeared on SNL or local news. I am making an observation and not indicating in any way that they made the transformation to perhaps save their careers or because they needed to keep working. With Dennis, he is very bright and I enjoy his patter. Another thing, I am hung on large quantities of diet soda and I get it from my wife, the postman, my friends. The ingredient data has caused a furor for years but I am pushing 60 and nothing has happened. I had to learn the investment field on my own, and for 43 years had a second job. Benefits do not pay the bills. Most Americans do not want to tear down the walls, a public option will come in under the table. I used to work for many years in the investigations field, two of the companies were international. My Dad was a prominent criminal lawyer and politician in my home town of New York City. The apple does not fall far from the tree, that is why those companies hired me and that is why I went around my small town yesterday and spoke to the high profile doctors asking"What is your take on the public option:? Retire, go to Nassau in the Bahamas, Teach, to wit I have had enough. Take money from a doctor you will regret it. Older gents like me will be playing harps as our PSA tests and colonoscopy procedures will result in perforated intestines and delayed retests. In many ways our present system is far from broke. If it ain't all broke do not fix it. You will be disheartened if they go nuclear should loved ones unnecessarily depart because of the potential chaos that we experience as history definitively verifies.
Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

Psycho Donuts Should Think About Lawyering Up

August 7, 2009

The owners and supporters of Psycho Donuts better listen up. I have been surfing the blogs and offering up some of my own commentary surrounding this Campbell, Ca donut shop that ridicules the mentally ill with some kind of minstrel show presentation that involves nurses uniforms, the bipolar donut, straight jackets and more. This is demented and should be stopped by the licensing body in California that must have human rights requirements of their own. The business however offensive to the impaired among us has been operating for months. They do have enablers who apparently have never been hospitalized but eat tons of donuts. I am not an attorney but I do have years of legal training. There is some levity and outrageous supporting opinions reduced to writing on the Internet. If I were the owners or the vocally or written supporters in a situation that potentially because state charges have been filed could conceivably evolve into a Federal Discrimination case furthered by the Justice Department and the ADA, a lot of donut people may be taking the stand for a long time.

The Insurance Industry Also Needs Reform

The trusting citizens among us look upon our massive insurance conglomerates as a Jolly Green Giant whose mission is to protect us from hurricanes, earthquakes, auto accidents and people who die young. They formulate their bean counting underwriting policies based on actuarial tables and they basically run free, regulated by the states and rarely interfered with by the Federal Government. In different scenarios and depending on the corporation starting with AIG, they too were in a definitive sense responsible for the hideous and unrelenting economic swamp that we find ourselves in. It is very rare save the most heinous class action suit such as an allegation of racist policy pricing that an individual or a group can really challenge these giants. It is like anything else in the American industrial complex, the Arrogance of Power. Allstate and State Farm were shown literally leaving entire states because of underwriting issues. Cigna policies were tied by media accounts to be, for policy reasons a contributor to two pre teen girl's deaths who were refused liver transplants. Exclusions, policy refusals, claims fastidiousness, pre-existing conditions and now a trend toward homeowner cancellations put customers in untenable financial standings and contribute to our national economic frailties. When I joined AARP, I no longer patronize them, I received tons of insurance offers. The famous three questions and your in often lead to tons of documentation, health exams now necessary and ultimately surcharges and refusals. Does AARP document the dispositions of their offers? What is important to note that federally uncontrolled underwriting remains mired in the past particularly in medical matters where current superlative advances in American medicine should be considered by the insurers instead of the mad dash to save pennies on the bottom line, a mission that is indicated in all their business planning. A pizza shop does not get to cry poverty if the condo next door is demolished and their business is lost. That guy takes the risk, the insurers cancel policies or leave entire states and who knows if they would have suffered had they continued their job. I know there are those who wish the government into the cornfields when it comes to regulation but this time we, the American people need Congressional hearings at the least to pull the reigns in on this omnipotent vertical market that presides over us like a ham fist.

What To Make of American Idol

I have been blogging for years regarding my views on American Idol, it's affect on our culture but more so on the music industry and the contributions or lack thereof of verifiable, professional artists. Open up the papers, watch the show biz programs, surf the net and it seems that American music lovers or fans actually spend an inordinate amount time discussing the vagaries of the judges, who in fact are pretty much examples of savvy business people rather than yielding any value to our musical appreciation. I often theorize that royalties are sideswiped from credible performers and appearances by known artists curtailed because of the sheer time we spend with what really is a contestant game show. American Idol, I guarantee you will never bring us the next Bob Dylan or Neil Young. Their A&R modes operand's does not lend itself to anything more than momentary hummingbird relations fame and a quick flame out. To be fair, Idol brought us Carrie Underwood who has staying power and is professional. The problem Idol performers have is as solos, a fickle audience will not shell out green money to see them in concert but is happy to watch them for free on the tube. Natalie Cole , Lily Allen, Fred Astaire were born with a gene that these people do not have. Why do we not get up a concert show and win some ratings with the classic pros? I am thinking Midnight Special stuff, no judges just beautiful music with instruments.
